Galvanised Steel
Galvanised mild steel is a good choice in applications where
increased corrosion resistance is required in outdoor or demanding indoor environments.
The steel is coated with a protective layer of zinc that helps prevent rust and
significantly extends the service life of the material. In perforated sheet
applications, the holes are punched through the pre-galvanised material,
exposing the base metal at the cut edges; while this can reduce the
effectiveness of the zinc coating locally, the surrounding galvanised surface
continues to provide sacrificial protection, including some galvanic protection
at and around the perforation edges.
This makes perforated galvanised steel an option for
exterior screens, security panels, agricultural equipment, plant protection,
ventilation systems, and industrial applications exposed to weather or
moisture. The zinc coating provides durable protection even if the surface
experiences minor scratches or wear during use. Galvanised steel is widely used
where strength and durability are important, but the cost of stainless steel
may not be justified. It is particularly well suited to functional outdoor applications
and industrial environments where long-term performance and reduced maintenance
are priorities.
